12 Days of Christmas

By: Nick Perez

[Years ago, when I would write a weekly bulletin article, I would write a wish list of sorts for God as a letter to Santa. Here’s is 2020’s letter to Santa.]

Dear Santa,
Despite 2020 being an odd year, I’ve tried to be a good boy all year. Since you’re coming to town in just a few days I wanted to let you know what I want for Christmas this year.

This year brought the unanticipated challenge of implementing a streaming service and improving our digital footprint. We have had to be flexible and adaptable to the circumstances, prepared for the lost signals, internet disruptions, and machine failures that go along with online worship. In addition, we have innovated new ways for congregating for worship, including Drive-In Church. So for next year, could you bring more resilience and creativity our way?

Our leadership is in the process of developing revitalization strategies for Davis Park. We are not yet sure
what exactly this looks like for our church context, though we have several targets in mind. Please fill your sleigh with plenty of wisdom and insight so that our leaders can know the times and know what Davis Park should do.

Once the strategy is developed, then comes its implementation. This will mean a congregation of willing
people who are eager to do the good works prepared beforehand that we might walk in them. Could you stuff the stockings of the members with a spirit of enthusiasm for church revitalization?

And of course, COVID-19. Could you bring a safe vaccine to everyone who wants it? Better yet, could you go ahead and eradicate this virus so that we can get busy with  our lives, moving forward into our new post-pandemic normal?

As always, I’ll be sure to leave plenty of cookies and milk out for you when you come by.
