Encouragement

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11

What does it mean to encourage?  Webster’s definition is: Encourage means to inspire with courage, spirit or confidence, to spur on.

The Encouragement Ministry at Davis Park Church of Christ is specifically reaching out and encouraging those who are newly baptized or have recently placed membership at Davis Park.

GOAL:
To make personal contact with all new members, to encourage them in their walk with the Lord, and be an encouragement to them.

OBJECTIVE:

  • To encourage the new members to feel connected and be involved with the work at Davis Park, and to realize they are a very important part of the family.
  • Have a luncheon for new members so that we can meet them and introduce them to the elders and ministers and their families.
  • To give them information of current weekly events, a phone directory of our members, and any other information that will help them to be better informed, to facilitate their transition from being a newcomer to being an active member.
  • To encourage them to become involved with a Small Group.

This ministry also sends cards of encouragement to various members that have been absent for three weeks or more.

In Acts 11:23-24 we read about Barnabas who encourages the Antioch church to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts.  He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord. This ministry aspires to do everything within our power to encourage other believers in their walk with the Lord.  We need to praise others when they labor for Jesus.  We need to be willing to make personal contact by visiting, calling, or sending cards of encouragement.
