Family Promise FAQ

What is it?
Family Promise of Greater Modesto is a non-profit organization that helps
families that have lost their homes to transition back into homes of their own.

What does that have to do with Davis Park?
Davis Park Church of Christ is one of a group of churches in the area that take turns hosting the families in the program. By that I mean that we provide dinner, a safe place to sleep, breakfast, and fixings to make their lunches. We also provide fellowship, and companionship while they are our guests.

How does it all work?
The families arrive on Sunday afternoon, between 5 and 5:30. We provide dinner, help them get settled into their rooms, and chat and/or play games with them until bedtime. Each night that we have guests sleep in the building we also have members who volunteer to sleep over as the hosts.

The Family Promise van picks the guests up at about 7 am, and takes them to the Family Promise Day Center. They return each evening between 5 and 5:30. The families transition to the next host church on Sundays. (The exception to the rule is Saturday morning – we let them sleep in a bit, and try to cook a real breakfast. The van usually arrives between 8:30 and 9.)
