1/24/2021 Sunday’s Sermon by Nick Perez

The Deity of the Son

He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Hebrews 1:3, ESV

Reflecting on Roe v Wade

Two days ago, on Friday, marked the 48th anniversary of Roe v Wade legalizing abortion in the United States. Since then over 61 million babies have been aborted in our country. To put this in perspective, on 9/11 3,000 Americans lost their lives. In the 48 years since Roe v Wade there has been a 9/11 every day in our nation with the number of abortions performed. What were these children to be? How many scholars, doctors, scientists, authors, musicians, preachers, elders, and leaders were systematically snuffed out? God will not hold our nation innocent of all this innocent bloodshed!

We believe in the sanctity of human life and what is in the unborn in the womb are human babies, not a fetus or blob of tissue or whatever. We believe this because Scripture teaches that humans are created
in the image of God (Genesis 1.26-27). This would include the human babies in utero. In addition, Scripture says, “Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward” (Psalm
127:3, ESV). The divine perspective on children, both born and unborn, is that they are a “heritage” (or
“gift”) and a “reward.” Children are valuable to God. So we believe in the sanctity of unborn human babies. The termination of a pregnancy resulting in the death of the unborn baby is sin.

We renounce abortion as sin. At the same time, while abortion is sin, it is not an unpardonable sin. If you, reader, have had an abortion or were complicit in an abortion, we affirm that there is hope in Christ. You
will find in Christ a willing, merciful Savior able to remove the guilt of your sin. In addition, as Christians
we need to speak against and discourage the taking of human life through abortion. We ought to champion and affirm adoption, supporting those parents and families who welcome, receive, and raise as their own non-biological children.

Opportunity to Make a Difference

We are in need of men’s pants (jeans preferred) in our Clothes Closet – sizes 32” to 38”. If you don’t have men’s pants, but would still like to donate, pants may be purchased at thrift stores. You can also donate funds earmarked for the Clothes Closet and someone will do the shopping for you. Donations may be dropped off at the church building Monday – Friday, 9 am – 3 pm.
