Sunday’s Sermon, Sunday at 10:45am

christmas-1250284-mSermon by Buddy Gray ~ The Gift of Joy for You.  I Thessalonians 5:16

“…Rejoice Always!”

PRINT Sermon Notes

Christmas is not about a Santa. It’s about a Savior. It’s not about jingle bells. It’s about Jesus. That’s why we celebrate this holiday.
There is a deeper truth than that. In this series of lessons we will look deeper to see what God wants us to understand  concerning the Savior He gave to us.

Sunday’s Sermon, Sunday at 10:45am

faith worksSermon by Jordan Coss, Interstellar

James 1:12-18 ~ 12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

Sunday’s Sermon, Sunday at 10:45am

faith works

Second sermon in a 4 part series on Faith Matters from the book of James, by Buddy Gray.

The Book of James was written by the half-brother of Jesus Christ to the first generation of Christians. James seeks to encourage Christians from falling away as a result of listening to flawed teaching and writes to other Christians for them to reach out to those who are being lured away by these false teachers. James challenges Christians of all times to remain focused on serving others as a means of staying focused on God. James tells us that our faith is demonstrated by what we do, not what we say.

Sunday’s Sermon, Sunday at 10:45am

Happy PeopleSermon by Jordan Coss, New Beginnings; A Place to Celebrate

Luke 4: 16-21 ~And he came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read. And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book and found the place where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He sent me to proclaim the release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed, To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.” And He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

Opportunities to Serve

1. This church has a $400 thousand dollar mortgage. If we refinance, we can reduce the interest from six percent down to four percent. The difference is thousands of dollars of interest. In order to refinance, we must reduce the principal by $70 thousand dollars by October. The elders feel led to pursue this. I’m confident we can.

The elders are not asking anyone to take out a loan, but only to share what God has given you already.

  • If your car battery died, could you replace it without taking out a loan?
  • If your fence blew down, could you replace it without taking out a loan?
  • Do you have a hundred-dollar bill in your wallet for emergencies?

Alternately, if you have savings that you do not need for five years, you can loan it to the church for a favorable interest rate—5%—payable in 2019. If you are willing to help, please give your pledge to Jon Hammond.

2. We are still in need of volunteers for the pantry ~ people who can meet with those who come to us for food, visit with them, help them with the required paperwork, give them food, and invite them to church, Bible class, Celebrate Recovery, etc. We have an opening on Wednesday mornings from 10 am to 10:30 am. Dearest Brothers and Sisters,

Words cannot say enough how much your thoughtfulness and kindness during
our loss has meant to each one of us. You have truly touched our hearts in so many
ways. Thank you for the cards, flowers and especially thank you for the luncheon
provided to our family after my dear sisters funeral. Thank you to those that
worked so hard to set up, serve and clean up afterward. A very big heartfelt thank
you to Buddy for doing such an awesome job and for being there for our family.
Again, words cannot convey how much you all mean to each of us.

All our Love,
Jeanette Wilson, Robert Daniel Patterson and family

Davis Park Church of Christ

Sunday’s Sermon, Sunday at 10:45am

disagreementThis Sunday we will discuss how Christians should work through disagreements.

Looking at Acts 15 and Galatians 2 we see that, as Christians, when we have a disagreement, we need to sit down with the other side to determine the problem and the source of the problem. Once the problems or issues are on the table it is time to seek solutions.

The rules of the discussion must be  spelled out to make sure the meeting remains civil.  Both sides must focus on the blood of Jesus that was sacrificed to allow them to be in their current saved position. Both parties need to understand that the disagreement may not end after the first meeting, but it should be agreeable to love one another as God loves each party.

Davis Park Church of Christ

Sunday’s Sermon, Sunday at 10:45am

Merry ChristmasSermon by Buddy Gray ~ The Good News of Christmas. Luke 2:2-10

“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid.
I bring you Good News of great joy that will be
for all the people.Today in the town of David a
Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the
Lord.”
